From completing this task I was able to notice where magazines are positioned due to the genre of the magazines or the make of them. Also i was able to notice that the majority of the magazines have a model on the front making eye contact which is an important selling point.

Audience Research - What Attracts An Audience To A Music Magazine.

From carrying out this task, I have been able to evaluate what makes a successful music magazine and what attracts the reader to buy it. I have noticed from doing this task many important points, these are: making sure that the model is making eye contact with the camera. When the magazine is then published and is usually put at eye height which therefore means that the model will be looking straight at you. Attracting your attention and making the chances bigger of you buying it. Another point attract the readers to your magazine is big making sure that it has a big and bold title. I have noticed that a lot of magazines have a white title but put it against a brightly coloured background to make it standout. Another colour that has been used a lot is red, as it is the most eye catching colour it is very successful at attracting your attention. I will take on board these two major points when designing and making my magazine to make sure it serves its purpose and attracts the attention from all readers. Leading on from this, having big and bold clear images is a great selling point for your magazine, it gives it a classy look and does not make it look over crowded. Over all, I have learnt from this task that I need to make sure my music magazine is very eye catching, quite simple so that not all the tag lines and and images are overlapping and making it look too busy.

From doing this task I have been able to analysis what makes the best and most eye drawing magazine. With the use of bold catchy titles with a nice clear font is what i found effective of the magazine. Also, clear photographs of models looking straight down the camera is what makes an affective image.

History of Music Magazines

From doing this task I have been able to gain a good knowledge in the history of all music magazines. I have found out some good facts and also some slightly good information. I know also know rough figures as to the circulation and readership of the magazines when they first started out.

Institutional video

Through doing this task, it has made me realise how many music institutions there are and how many magazines they represent and own. My video displays a couple of facts about each institution and an example of who they own. By doing this task also, I have realised what is best for a magazine to make it sell and attract the buyers attention.

By Doing this task, I have found out the popularity of all the magazines, when they were published and also the competitive prices that they charge. I am also able to see how often they are published and what genre the majority of them are.

Evaluation of my school magazine

This is the evaluation of my investigation with the school magazine.

Front cover mock up

This is a draft/mock up of my front cover page. I planned to use photographs of school students holding exam results to show off their exam success. I also planned to put in the school logo to show relevance to the project. in the bottom corner I planned to show contact information. such as telephone numbers and email address/website addresses.

Contents Page mock up

This is a mock up of my contents page, I have taken onboard from my research that it needs to be eye catching, bold and also inviting to make you want to read on. i have made sure that mine meets this standard by using bold blue circles (school colours) to attract attention and to also make it clear which pages tells you which information. I have also used the school logo again to show relevance to the purpose of the contents page.

This is a copy of my front cover for my school magazine. From carrying out my research I found that big bold titles were very eye catching and appealing so that is why I decided to use this in my. I have used a landscape shot of the whole school on my cover to also draw the eyes attention. I have then also used a mid-shot of a student in front of the school for my main photo.

School Magazine Research

 

 By doing this task I have learnt that magazines that use the school colours are a lot more attractive and draw in my attention rather the typical black and white. Also I have noticed that contents pages that are clear and bold but not over crowded are the best and attract my attention. I will take on board this research when creating my own magazine cover and contents page.
