Planning the layout alignment

By completing this task, I have been able to evaluate what and how I would like the alignment of my music magazine to be. I have made the alignment of magazines simple but also interesting to keep the readers attention onboard.

Picture Planning and Shot list

By creating this document I felt that I was able to forecast what shots I wanted to take for my magazine, where they can be taken and who can appear in them. I feel that I have chosen wisely as to who I would would like to appear in my magazine and I feel that all my models fit the genre of the magazine and are suitable.

My Flat Plan Idea

It was vital for me to create my flat plan idea as for my magazine, I will also be creating my own contents page so will need to know what is going where. By doing this task and creating my flat plan, it made me realise how much thought of each page needs to go into a magazine and also how many adverts there are throughout a magazine.

Alignment task (Front Cover, Contents page, Double page spread.)

By creating this task and analysing how I would like the layout of my magazine to be, I finally came up with the ideas above. I have clearly stated how I would like the layout to be after trying out many ideas with this task.

My Popplet - My logo ideas

By creating this mood board, I was able to gather together ideas as to themes and types of photos I would like to use in my magazine. By creating this mood board, it inspired me as to how I am going to carry out my photo shoots and format my magazine.

Costume, prop, location and actor planning task

By doing this task, I was able to brain storm what i would like my female and male models to wear. The locations that I would like to use and also the use of props in photos if i decide to use them. I have gone for my models to wear autumn fashioned clothes and also autumn themed locations. I feel that by doing this task has saved me a lot of time as I have planned ahead and then I don't have to rush and use no imagination on the day of the actual shoot.

First draft of my double page spread article.

Double page spread article first draft.
Introducing Sally –  ‘This is who I’ve always wanted to be’

Sally Gill, the former blossom band singer, made a big solo splash in 2012 and 2013. Born and raised in a small town in South Gloucestershire Sally was brought up within a musical family, encouragement was strong towards Sally for her to do well in her musical career and to pursue her dream. Since she was little Sally was very well known in her family to listen to any music that was playing in her house from Rock to classical. However, Sally’s parents paid out money for her to attend guitar lessons which didn’t last long as all she wanted to do was to sing. While continuing her singing as a hobby through her studies she graduated from university as a physiologist but ever since has only ever wanted to sing. Her qualified job as a child physiologist lasted 2 years before she signed to the group ‘blossom band’ but after just 7 months decided to go solo and bring out her own album. Here are some more of her highs and lows.

The best gig I ever played:
“Glastonbury was such a special gig for me. All my close family were there in the year of 2012. To walk on stage and see so many full tents and camper vans really did shock me and made me realise how lucky I was to be able to perform there.”

The worst gig I ever played:
“I don’t want to mention names but there was a shocker in July. We had already played Summer Sundae that day and it was a Saturday night and we were headlining a small stage. I was hoping for a Saturday night rowdy crowd but it was pretty empty and everyone looked a bit bored. I think it was the only gig when I genuinely didn’t want to continue playing.”

The strangest situation:
“A couple of days ago, I was about 10 minutes away from a gig venue when the clutch went on the car that was driving us to our destination. My driver struggled to get the car into gear along a normal 40mph road in a town when all of a sudden a couple of members of the public noticed it was me in the car and were jogging alongside the car with us as we rolled along the road in 2nd gear. It was very weird.” *sally laughs*

The biggest turning point:
“Getting the album out is something I’ve been dreaming of for so long but never thought would ever happen. The fact that it’s in shops for people to buy is crazy. I’m just hoping people share it.”

The first song I ever wrote:
“It was a song called ‘The first bridge’ which was inspired by my childhood cat; Puck”

The coolest person I ever met:
“Definitely has to be Barney Harwood in which who I met while on a family holiday with my friend where he stopped to speak to us and mentioned he had a friend who seen me in concert and thought I was brilliant.

The best advice I can give:
“This would have to be Stay true to who you are. Change can be good but, only if it’s you that wants it.”

After a long time of decision making, I finally decided that my article would be an interview with the model whois going to be on my front cover who is also a solo singer. The article is about how she made it big in the music industry and how she never gave up on her dream. I asked her questions such as asking her about her first gigs, her best gigs, awkward situations she has been in and also advice that she would give to someone if they wanted to start up as a singer.

My Rate Pack

When creating my Rate pack, I was able to get an in-sight as to what type of people will be reading my magazine. This is all to do with me knowing their gender, their race info, their geographical location and also their main interests. I feel that this rate pack also looks appealing to readers if it is wanted to be read. I have incorporated images that are relevant to my magazine whether they match the genre, for advertising or ideas from other magazines.

My Logo

After experimenting with many different fonts on 'Da Font' I finally chose this font as I felt that it agreed with my specification for it to be clear, simple, bold but eye catching. By using the programme 'Da Font' I was soon able to see which fonts were appropriate and which were not.

Picture Analysis

By completing this task, I was able to analysis the format of pictures that are used in other music magazines. I can use these photos as inspiration for my own magazine when it comes to conducting a photo shoot. Also by doing this task, I have taken a liking to Black and white photos which I have incorporated in this task also.

An interview about the positioning of music magazines in a shop!

From doing this task, I have learnt a lot about what the actual sellers of the magazines think about them, and what they do to help them sell. I will now be able to locate certain things on a magazine which will help them sell.

Formatting Research

From completing this task I have been able to design the format as to how I would like my page layout to turn out. I have created it similar to NME magazine which I am basing my magazine on and being similar to.

Representation Task

From doing this task, I have realised that everything within the front cover or double page spread needs to have a representation to the theme of the magazine or genre it has.

NME Flat Plan

By completing this task, i have realised that my magazine needs to have a variety of features to keep my readers hooked and remain interested! The double page spread needs to be on something interesting and that is relevant to the genre of the magazine.
